Project number 3 at IronHack BootCamp

Project overview

The task in this project was to add a new feature that doesn’t exist to an existing app. My feature was to have the option to send and receive money via WhatsApp. I researched and actually saw that this feature already exists in some countries but not working well. The feature I have added is a small € sign located next to the contact info-communication. Once you click on the € sign, a dropdown menu opens and gives you options to send and receive money. After the money was sent, an automated message will appear on the receiver side.

Research & Discovery

I first created a short interview to understand if the users will send money via WhatsApp. The interviews helped me to discover that people preferred to send money using PayPal and that they will only use WhatsApp if it is easy and safe.

After analyzing the interview results, I started to ideate. This process helped me find the position for the new feature. When the user wants to send money, he usually uses PayPal or bank transfer if the user wants to send money to a friend. WhatsApp could be a great solution so I started to sketch a low-fi wireframe to visualize the feature position.

Low-fi Sketching

After understanding the new feature position I did a user flow to understand how the new feature will fits in to the app.

From the information, I gathered and the research I did, I created a Mid-fi prototype and tested it.

The results were very positive so I created and animated a High-Fi prototype.

WhatsApp Chats Screen
A chat from Chris asking for €25 for Josh’s birthday party
A dropdown opens once you click on the € sign
I Chose to send money using CC
I entered my CC details and clicks on “Pay Now”
An Automated message is being sent to the receiver side

It was great working on this project, the research is extremely important to understand the user needs. The next goal is to implement the feature and overcome security issues.
